Tanager Place
They say 'A picture is worth a thousand words' and at Tanager Place we experience the power of expression through art in our Expressive Art Therapy Program. Using this art, a traveling art display will be on hand at a variety of community businesses this summer. This special display shares a special story of recovery and growth and gives a personal look at the needs of children who struggle emotionally.

New to this year’s display is work from flood impacted children from the Cedar Rapids Community Schools. “My Neighborhood Rebuilt” is a special and colorful display that was developed through our community outreach program; Crayon Conversations. Children from the Cedar Rapids Community Schools were involved with this Expressive Arts program throughout the year and during the eight week project they created and re-built their own neighborhood. Sessions were funded by the Iowa Arts Council, Greater Cedar Rapids Community Foundation and Annie E. Casey Foundation through the United Way of East Central Iowa.

The traveling art display will also be hosted by the following businesses in the Cedar Rapids community:

Habitat for Humanity Build-A-thon.
We are in need of volunteers right now as well as after the Build A thon.

The week of the Build a thon is when there are 500 AmeriCorps as well as Habitat partner families that will be our primary “builders”

There is a need that week for afternoon hours 4 to 9pm skilled workers to catch the houses up to where they need to be.

That week will have the house framework complete ie: doors, windows, siding, roof etc.

Right now, they are doing basements and foundation work on the houses. So volunteers are needed right now up to the Build a thon to complete those needed and necessary tasks.

After the BAT, there is a need for finishing all the interior of the house, along with the trades of electrical, plumbing, heating, HVAC etc. plus painting and landscaping.

So wanted to make sure you all knew the depth and length that we need volunteers to complete these Habitat homes, with the hopes partner families move in during September and October 2009.

Angel Food Ministries
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to families throughout the U.S. This ministry is based out of Monroe, GA and serves about 500,000 families each month and is the largest food ministry of its kind in the country. It works through local church and non-profit host sites, which take the prepaid orders and then help to distribute the food on distribution day. Angel Food Ministries, in return, donates $1 per regular unit to the host site's benevolence fund.

Customers receive about $70 worth of quality restaurant grade food for just $30
- this includes fresh meat and fresh vegetables as well as staple items
one $30 unit would feed a family of four for about one week or a senior citizen for one month

THERE ARE NO REQUIREMENTS!

Anyone can participate in this and purchase as many units as they wish. EBT food stamps are accepted.

This takes place once a month and the menu changes monthly

Additional specials are available, as well as a 'convenience' box that is great for those that live alone.

This is a great way for families to stretch their grocery dollars and not sacrifice quality.
There are several host sites and a large number of people that could take advantage of Angel Food Ministries. You can view the current menu at: http://www.angelfoodministries.com/menu_0902en.asp
