God is not stingy. He does not weigh out his love for us grain by grain; he doesn't squeeze out forgiveness one tiny drop at a time. Not our God—he pours out mercy in a flood. He loves us more than we know. He gives us more than we can ask or dream. He's unrestrained. excessive. outrageous. Over the Top.

Angel Food Ministries
Angel Food Ministries is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing grocery relief to families throughout the U.S. This ministry is based out of Monroe, GA and serves about 500,000 families each month and is the largest food ministry of its kind in the country. It works through local church and non-profit host sites, which take the prepaid orders and then help to distribute the food on distribution day. Angel Food Ministries, in return, donates $1 per regular unit to the host site's benevolence fund. Customers receive about $70 worth of quality restaurant grade food for just $30 - this includes fresh meat and fresh vegetables as well as staple items one $30 unit would feed a family of four for about one week or a senior citizen for one month THERE ARE NO REQUIREMENTS! Anyone can participate in this and purchase as many units as they wish. EBT food stamps are accepted. This takes place once a month and the menu changes monthly Additional specials are available, as well as a 'convenience' box that is great for those that live alone. This is a great way for families to stretch their grocery dollars and not sacrifice quality. There are several host sites and a large number of people that could take advantage of Angel Food Ministries. You can view the current menu at: http://www.angelfoodministries.com/menu_0902en.asp

Foster parent training
Iowa KidsNet to hold orientation in Waterloo.

Iowa KidsNet, the statewide organization that recruits, trains, licenses and supports Iowa’s foster and adoptive families, will hold an orientation in Waterloo on February 2nd for individuals interested in becoming foster or adoptive parents.

Foster care is the temporary placement of children with families outside of their own home due to abuse, neglect or other family crisis situations. The goal is for loving families to provide children with a safe, stable and nurturing environment. There is no typical foster family—foster families can be single, married, homeowners or renters and can come from all racial, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

Orientations are informational sessions that give attendees a basic overview of the process involved in foster care and adoption and an understanding of the characteristics of children in the child welfare system. There is no obligation to continue in the process by attending an orientation.

With over 4,000 Iowa children needing a foster home on any given day, there is a large need for foster and adoptive parents. To register for an upcoming orientation session or to learn more, call Iowa KidsNet at 1.800.243.0756 or visit www.iowakidsnet.com.

Iowa KidsNet is a statewide collaboration of agencies that utilizes a unique, cohesive approach to provide recruitment, training, licensing and continued support to individuals who wish to become foster and adoptive parents. Iowa KidsNet is a partnership of six Iowa social service agencies, including Four Oaks, Boys and Girls Home and Family Services, Children’s Square USA/Child Connect, Family Resources, Lutheran Services in Iowa and Quakerdale.

Since all participants must be registered to attend, families will be given the time and location of orientation when registering for the session.

Adapted Sports Camp
University of Northern Iowa Adapted Sports Camp on the campus of University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa 50614. Dates are usually in June and this year it will be June 16-19th 2010. Cost is $150. We are getting this info out to as many athletes, volunteers or donors around the state and to others nearby. We will bring in volunteers and athletes sometime on a Wednesday in the afternoon at registration time . Athletes stay in the dorms and eat on campus. We will close camp around 2:00pm on a Saturday . The volunteers would be helping in some tasks like transferring athletes into different sports chairs, helping move athletes and equipment around campus, with helping some get their plates to the tables at meals, set up games, help with the games and different sports activities, and many other things as needed during the day. We use volunteers each day and night. Some may stay at night just to be around if needed but most likely will not be up during the night.
One thing about these athletes. They are kids who have a great range of abilities and disabilities and some are in chairs but not all. Most are very independent in most aspects of their daily lives and skills. They just happen to use a chair for each particular sport. And the chairs differ for each sport. The chairs are built specific to the needs of the sport activity. The athletes have mostly lower limb involvement, with good upper body control and good cognitive skills. The athletes can be ones not just limited to a wheelchair but also who walk with crutches, braces, prosthetic legs and feet, disabilities from birth, have had spinal chord injuries, sports injuries, etc. They can be very similar in some disabilities to a lot of the men and women coming back from the war with injuries, but are just younger. These athletes are ones that if they are an elite athlete and take it to their full potential could someday end up in the Paralympic games. This type of athlete most likely not being serviced with sports opportunities right now in the state as there is no where for them to learn and train in many sports. Most may not be doing Special Olympics. They mostly have good cognitive skills, have better upper body strength to push a chair and also have a willingness to explore competitive and recreational sports. They also can't do regular stand up basketball or track and field. Not all will do competitive sports but should want to improve their athletic skills in many areas. But they can be athletic. Most have gone or will hopefully go on to become members of their local track teams and compete with their teammates during the track season. Some have gone to the state boys and girls track meet in past years. We have a few athletes that have gone through this type of program playing on our adult basketball team the Iowa Chairiots located in Waterloo Iowa. This is where some of these athletes may end up if they chose to continue that sport. Our basketball team has contacted some adults as they become injured to help them be able to do various sports also. So you see this type of sports camp can be a learning experience for these kids for some things that could last a life time. Again I can't tell you how important this camp can be for getting some kids a start along that path. We don't have a huge number of kids as we are just in our fourth year and wanted to keep it smaller at first to see what we need to do for future camps. We hope to expand it as we have more experience volunteers athletes and money to grow the camp. I think it would be a great experience for anyone who is interested in seeing how these athletes do. If you'd like to email me on any of it, please feel free.

We usually teach track, hand cycling, basketball, boccia ball, and rugby on Thursday, basketball, football, softball rock climbing, walley ball, weight training on Friday, and track and field and tennis and basketball on Saturday. If we can add other days in the future we will add more activities. We will be doing other fun things also during those days.

We are growing with people who are learning about what we are doing and are constantly exploring ideas with different people in ways to make the camp better. We had a great response from the athletes, coaches and all the volunteers at the past couple of years camps.I know were helping in some small way to make things better for people and athletes with disabilities to become involved in the future. If you have anyone interested in attending, volunteering, coaching, donating, etc. let me know. I can email the forms needed for camp.
